Short answer: HP 923e costs almost the same per rated page as HP 923, while HP 936e is about 4.5%–5% less expensive per rated page than HP 936. EvoMore’s clearest advantage is fewer cartridge replacements—not dramatically lower printing costs.

A cartridge that prints twice as many rated pages sounds as if it should cut ink costs in half. The current numbers tell a different—and more useful—story. This comparison separates purchase price, rated capacity, and operational convenience so you can choose the right cartridge for the way you actually print.

HP EvoMore vs Standard Ink at a Glance

What Is HP EvoMore Ink?

EvoMore is HP’s higher-capacity line of Original HP ink cartridges for selected printers. In the two families examined here, the standard and EvoMore versions serve the same U.S. printer families, while the cartridge families themselves remain separate:

• HP 923 and 923e are intended for supported North American HP OfficeJet Pro 8120 and 8130 family printers.
• HP 936 and 936e are intended for supported North American HP OfficeJet Pro 9100 and 9700 family printers.

An HP 923-series printer cannot use an HP 936-series cartridge, or vice versa. Cartridge numbers can also differ by region: related printers outside North America may use HP 924/925 or HP 937/938 supplies. Always verify the exact printer model, cartridge number, and sales region before ordering.

HP says the 923e and 936e provide about twice the rated yield of their standard counterparts. The 936e color cartridges are rated slightly above twice the standard color yield: 1,650 pages versus 800. These are approximate averages based on ISO/IEC 24711 or HP testing methodology under continuous-printing conditions—not guaranteed results in every office.

HP 923e vs 923: Price, Yield, and Cost per Rated Page

The HP 923 comparison is a capacity decision more than a savings decision.

Black Ink

Two standard HP 923 black cartridges provide 1,000 rated pages for $73.98. One 923e provides the same rated output for $72.99—a calculated difference of just $0.99 per 1,000 rated pages, or about 1.3%.

Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow Ink

Two standard HP 923 color cartridges cost $37.98; one 923e with twice the rated yield costs $37.99. After rounding, the price per rated yield is the same. That makes 923e valuable primarily when fewer changes and less frequent reordering are worth more than the lower upfront price.

HP 923 verdict: choose 923e for higher capacity and fewer interruptions. Choose standard 923 for a lower immediate expense, occasional printing, or a printer you may replace before consuming a high-capacity cartridge.

HP 936e vs 936: Price, Yield, and Cost per Rated Page

The HP 936e has a clearer financial case because its price increases by less than its rated capacity.

Black Ink

Two standard HP 936 black cartridges provide 2,500 rated pages for $99.98. One 936e provides the same rated output for $94.99—a calculated difference of $4.99 per 2,500 rated pages, or about 5% per rated page.

Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow Ink

The HP 936e color cartridges deliver slightly more than twice the rated yield while costing less than twice as much. The resulting price per rated composite-color yield is about 4.5% lower.

HP 936 verdict: 936e is the stronger choice for regular-volume users who expect to consume the cartridge’s capacity. Standard 936 remains reasonable when lowering today’s purchase total matters more than long-run supply management.

How We Calculated Cost per Rated Page

Cost per rated page = listed cartridge price ÷ HP-rated page yield

Prices were checked at Toner Cartridge Depot on August 25, 2026, before any checkout-only discount, and can change. The yields come from HP. Toner Cartridge Depot did not perform an independent laboratory yield test for this article.

Published yields are approximate averages based on ISO/IEC 24711 or HP testing methodology under continuous-printing conditions. Actual yield can vary considerably with:

• page coverage and document content;
• text, graphics, photo, and color mix;
• printer settings and maintenance cycles;
• print frequency and other operating conditions.

A lightly covered business letter and a full-color presentation do not consume ink at the same rate. Use the calculations to compare cartridges on one common published basis—not as a guarantee of your exact future cost.

Compatible Printer Families

When Does EvoMore Make Operational Sense?

The spreadsheet captures only part of the buying decision. Every cartridge change also means checking inventory, opening supplies, replacing the cartridge, and disposing of or recycling the empty. Higher capacity can reduce those replacement events even when the calculated ink savings are small.

Is EvoMore Better for the Environment?

HP makes a specific, qualified claim: EvoMore has a lower carbon footprint than the corresponding standard cartridge when normalized to 1,000 printed pages. HP says its life-cycle assessment conforms to ISO 14040/14044 and was third-party verified. This is not an independent environmental finding by Toner Cartridge Depot.

HP also reports that:

• the EvoMore box contains at least 90% recycled fiber by weight and is recyclable subject to local rules;
• used cartridges can be returned through HP Planet Partners where the program is available; and
• one higher-yield cartridge can replace roughly two standard-capacity cartridges at the published yield.

The practical environmental outcome still depends on whether the capacity is fully used, how supplies are transported, and whether empty cartridges are returned for recycling. “Lower carbon footprint per 1,000 pages” is more precise than a blanket claim that any purchase is environmentally harmless.

Final Verdict: Is HP EvoMore Worth It?

My verdict on HP 923e: consider it for convenience, not major savings. The black cartridge is only about 1.3% less expensive per rated page at the prices examined, and the individual color comparison is effectively even. Buy 923e when fewer changes matter; do not expect a dramatic drop in ink expense.

My verdict on HP 936e: it is generally worth it for regular-volume users. It combines roughly twice the capacity with a calculated cost advantage of about 5% for black and 4.5% for each color. The savings are modest, but the combination of fewer interruptions and lower price per rated yield makes the business case stronger.
