Samsung Electronics annonced it’s rolling out several low-cost MFPs of SCX-3400 series. According to the developers, the newcomers are designed primarilyfor small businesses, are easy to use and reliable in operation, offering numerous capabilities of printing, scanning, copying and sending / receiving faxes at reasonable price.

As noted, the devices are designed to be cost effective and environment-friendly. One Touch Eco Button activates a cost-effective printing mode, allowing you to reduce power consumption, toner and paper to work more effectively. What is more, devices are equipped with a proprietary Easy Eco Driver solution, which enables custom settings for cost management. For example, in one of the tabs of Eco Driver application, users can choose not to print unnecessary images and text without changing the original file, which further reduces the use of toner and paper. Even greater savings are realized through printing up to 8 slides / pages on one page. Results Simulator tab displays the expected results of reducing CO2 emissions, as well as the current lever of power consumption, paper and toner for the document to print. In addition, by changing specific settings, users can view in real time the expected printing costs and the impact on the environment depending on the setting used.

It is also noteworthy that the newcomers are supplied with the Easy Printer Manager application, which provides monitoring of MFP in real time, and also provides data on the printer maintenance, ensuring prompt and accurate reporting. Printer models of the SCX-3400 series use a single integrated management program to allow user control other proprietary MFPs on a single screen. This solution is also convenient to remotely manage the device, which is important when using the MFP in the office.

SCX-3400 series multifunction printers use Samsung toner cartridges, presicely model MLT-D101S that’s enough for printing 1,500 pages, and are shipped with 700 pages starter toner cartridge.

Since mobile printing is becoming increasingly important aspect of modern business life, SCX-3405W and SCX-3405FW modification come with a network interface, enabling users to view and print files from any mobile device that has the Samsung MobilePrint application installed. While traditional methods using PIN require multi-step procedures for configuring a wireless network, Samsung WPS wireless setup feeature makes it possible to connect MFPs to the LAN throung access point or router in just 2 minutes. In addition, the Wi-Fi Direct function allows connecting mobile devices that support this technology directly to the MFP without any access point, bypassing the complex processes of setup and configuring the device.

Canon has announced a new compact all-in-one printer supporting web applications and smart features. This model is suitable for students or families who need an affordable printer that is compatible with current internet technology.

Thanks to the built-in Wi-Fi module, the MG4120 can scan and copy documents at any point in the house. The MG4120 printer also includes a wide selection of templates, such as calendars, envelopes, forms, notes, etc., that are available for print in a single click.

Samsung Electronics announced of new color (Samsung MultiXpress CLX-9350ND/9250ND) and monochrome (Samsung MultiXpress SCX-8040ND/8030ND) multifunction devices that are designed to work in medium to large workgroups.

New items are equipped with 8.9-inch LCD touch control panel with large buttons and the ability to adjust the position. An intuitive user interface with large icons allows you to monitor the state of MFP, to navigate through menus and control operations. On the bright screen, you can view the first page of the scanned document and cancel the transaction if an error occurs, and bright LED indicators show the current status of the device. Among the standard features, there is a function print / scan to USB-drive, a network folder and email.

Each of the models is ready to work with paper of different sizes (up to size SRA3) and has a proprietary Samsung Scan Technology. Among other things, the devices can print images with a selected color or without a certain color, which will be replaced with white (that can save toner when printing images with a dark background).

Pressing the button starts saving Eco print mode that reduces toner consumption.

Advanced security features include password authentication, data encryption and protection from penetration into the office network.

All MFPs come with pre-installed special software, which consists of SmarThru Workflow applications (helps with documents work), SyncThru (allows you to monitor and diagnose the condition of the device, as well as manage its operation in a remote location), SecuThru (ensures secure transmission and printing of confidential information) and CounThru (provide information on the amount of press and money spent).

There are two kinds of toner cartridges designed to work with this printer: standard yield and high yield cartridges. The former can produce and to 15,000 pages and latter carry toner enough for 20,000 pages.

Modern designers often work with three-dimensional shapes, but all these forms remain on that side of the screen. The Japanese company Roland DG released a relatively affordable «3D-printer. However, in contrast to the modern systems it does not make object out of liquid plastic, but rather grind it out from a solid bar of plastic or wood.

The machine is connected to a PC via a USB port and displays the “Print” complex models from CAD-files, the device is packaged with programs designed to create and output three-dimensional models. To get the mock-up, the user puts a bar on a special platform, the printer gets calibrated and starts the job. The printing process is time consuming. The model is created on one side only — only half of the figure. To obtain a full three-dimensional object you need to print the two halves and glue them together. Afterwards, you’d most probably need to paint it to your liking. Yes, lots of efforts, but the cost of the printer is only about a thousand dollars.

The video below gives you an idea how all this looks like:

You are probably familiar with the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) acronym, which stands for a property of programs to display an image that is close to the final result, whether it’s printed text or Web page. It seems like now the term can apply to printers as design studio Artefact introduced the concept of printer See What You Print or SWYP.

Unlike most modern printers, this model is a fully autonomous device with a large touch screen and computer platform. User prints out any material, the source of which can be a full-pledged personal computer, laptop or desktop, mobile device, smartphone or tablet. However, before actual printing user can edit the image with the simple image editor.

Since the display size of the printer corresponds to A4 paper size, the user sees the actual image that will be printed out. To start printing you only need to touch and slide down with your finger on the screen. Worth mentioning is the ink level indicator: when cartridges run low on ink, the image on the screen fades unevenly, once again confirming the main idea of the concept — “You see what you print.”

It’s been or almost a year that Epson offers the PrintJinni application for iOS devices, which allows users of these smartphones to print photographs and other information via their handheld assistants. Finally, the company offered a similar application that allows direct printing from mobile devices to owners of Android smartphones and tablets. It’s called Epson iPrint.

Having installed the Epson iPrint, users can perform printing to any Epson printer or multifunction supporting a wireless connection. In addition to regular printing documents and photos from smartphone, the application also allows printing with cloud services such as Box.net, Dropbox and Evernote. Users can also print Web pages and change the print settings from the application.

Advanced settings include the ability to select and enqueue multiple photos at once. Supported is the borderless photo printing from the phone. Users can also select different type of image resolution and optimize printing quality. The application is now available for download in the Android Market.

Apple To Patent Printer Without Driver

To connect to a computer printer, you usually need to install the supplied driver set. Sometimes these drivers are be downloaded from Internet, and sometimes they are installed as a part of software pack, most of which will never be demanded. Ideally, the printer, as well as any other connected devices, should be working without any additional moves.

Apple seems to shares this position completely, as evidenced by a number of registered patents. The first patent describes an extremely simple idea: the printer has a built-in small volume storage that contains all of the drivers. When you connect the printer they automatically downloaded and installed to your computer. The idea of the second patent maybe familiar to Google users, we are talking about cloud print. The computer sends data that you want to print to cloud, the Web server converts them into a format that the printer understands, then the actual document is printed.

The third patent deals with printers, which receive data of strictly defined formats. If the user wishes to print the type of document that a given printer “understands” (e.g., DOC), then installation of the driver is not required. If the user wishes to go beyond this format, installation of a specific software is required. As always in case of patents, no reports of when these technologies will be implemented in commercial products, and whether they will be implemented at all.

Almost everybody knows that 3D-printers can print anything you want. Some people want a snack, and they prefer chocolate. This is not something impossible anymore. Most modern 3D-printers as the main material used plastics because it melts at relatively low temperatures and is easily deformed.

Chocolate print

Scientists at the University of Exeter (England) have noticed that chocolate has similar properties. These considerations led them to build a computer-controlled 3D-printer that prints with chocolate. Of course, not everything went smooth, working with chocolate was a bit more complicated. It is not as flexible, so pouring it through a standard feeder was difficult, and maintaining a stable form of the printed prototype was not easy, too. To fix these issues, the authors developed intelligent systems of heating and cooling, rather complicated and expensive to maintain. This makes the idea of 3D-printers chocolate machines going into mass production unrealistic in the nearest future. However, the service of printing chocolate figurines, whether it’s household items or jewelry, might well arise. Girls will definitely appreciate a chocolate necklace for Valentine’s Day!
