Samsung SCX-4725FN multifunction printerFirst thing you should know about Samsung SCX-4725FN is that it is a multifunctional printer. This mean you can do numerous actions — print, copy scan and send faxes — all from a single device.

Having learned that, let’s see what’s more there is.

The SCX-4725FN is marketed as a network device. The manufacturer says that with this printer you can “be fully connected with all of your departments and enjoy the easy-to-use, network-enabled solutions that the SCX-4725FN offers”, that’s not quite so. While you can easily print over the network, there’s not support for network scanning and faxing. You have to connect it through USB if you want to use it full.

Speaking of scanning. Color scanning option is not supported, too, so you are limited to black-and-white document scans only. However, for somebody this limitation won’t be critical.

One of the most important features SCX-4725FN has is toner save mode. When active it reduces toner consumption by up to 30%, giving you more print outs per Samsung toner cartridge. Despite the manufacturer’s claims of retaining the print quality in toner save mode, the printouts do look really toned down.

Another point of notice is long warm-up time. It takes the printer several minutes to get ready from stand by mode.

But there’s also a bright side: Samsung SCX-4725FN offers a bunch of copying options.

First, clone copying. This feature enables copying the same image in reduced size on one printed page.

Next is favorite copy feature that allows making specialized copies easily. You just store a few functions as “Favorite Copy.” Instead of requiring multiple steps to select copy options, pressing the “Favorite Copy” button requires only one step to complete the assigned special copy.

With auto-fit copying you can expand a small image to fit the printed page and double sided copies can now be put on one side. The latter copying function allows you to consolidate copies without hassle or wasting time or paper.

It’s also worth mentioning that SCX-4725FN is ENERGY STAR compliant. This means you are assured that your Samsung model is helping the environment by using less energy while saving you money.

Samsung ML 2571N Samsung first introduced the ML-2571N model in May, 2006, so why would you want to buy a printer that is almost three years old?

There are some reasons to that.

First off, what do you actually want a printer to do? Right, print documents. That’s what Samsung ML-2571N does well. And fast.

Well, 24 pages per minute, a printing speed claimed by the manufacturer, are not there. But same goes for any claimed print speed of any printer by any maker. The real printing speed reaches decent 16-17 pages per minute, which puts the printer above its counterparts from Canon and HP.

Second (probably should go first for some of us), Samsung ML-2571N is cheap to own. The printer was priced modest $200 when it was first launched into market. Now you would have to pay only $120 to $180, depending on what e-shop you choose, to become an owner of this printer. Seems like a bargain price.

Apart from low upfront costs, the printer is cheap to maintain. At TonerCartridgeDepot.com you can buy a replacement toner cartridge for Samsung ML-2571N for only $95.85 or other Samsung toner cartridges. With one such cartridge designed to last as much as 3,000 pages, it makes up about 3 cents per page.

Third of all, this printer as very compact. It is so small you could hold it in your one hand, if you wanted to.

Samsung ML-2571N

The ML-2571N measures 354 x 246 x 297 mm, which is small enough to fit virtually any desktop.

Add to this a compatibility with Windows, Linux and Mac OS and built-in Ethernet adaptor, and you’ll get a mono laser printer that has the right combination of price and features for a home office user with basic printing needs.

Samsung CLX-3175FW wireless laser printer CLX-3175FW is another Samsung’s printer that sets record, this time as the world’s smallest WIRELESS laser printer. If you are a fan of quality printing yet don’t really like massive bulky laser printers on your desktop then Samsung’s boast that its new laser printer is the smallest in the whole wide world will no doubt impress you deeply.

This “multi-talented, four-in-one, wireless color laser printer” is memorably named the ‘CLX-3175FW’ and “guarantees an ultra high-resolution output in copy, print, scan and fax, along with a small, compact footprint, giving you maximum space saving and value for money.”

It looks quite cool as well, if you need something to accompany your shiny new MacBook Air in your flashly minimalist home work space to impress work colleagues and friends with.

The printer features Samsung’s revolutionary No Nois™ (right, no e after s) Technology engine design.

According to Samsung’s release “the CLX-3175FW’s 2400 x 600 dpi fine print resolution ensures all documents are produced with clarity and detail. A 20,000 page per month duty cycle means it is built to withstand the heaviest workloads, and its fast color and mono print and copy speeds allow you to add color with definition to all business documents.”

It seems like a nice model, ready to fit into the smallest of places, yet with the features of a robust machine.

Also check up on toner level, maybe you need to replace the Samsung toner cartridge?

Samsung SCX-4300 Multifunction Laser PrinterThe SCX-4300 has a neat footprint for an office all-in-one machine, a little wider than a typical personal laser printer, but with very similar depth and height. The sides of the machine flare slightly at the top to accommodate the A4 scanner mechanism which, unlike the SCX-4500’s, sits across the laser engine from left to right, rather than from front to back.

The software supplied with the machine is Samsung’s standard coupling of its SmarThru 4 and Dr. Printer utilities. The first deals with scanning, copying and printing, as well as sharing images, while the second is a diagnostic website. The driver itself handles watermarks, overlays and various print quality settings, laid out in a logical and easy-to-navigate panel.

The SCX-4300 is quite a nippy little printer, completing our five-page text document in just 30 seconds, or 10 ppm. The text and graphics pages (five of them again) are even quicker at 11.54 ppm and when we printed our 20-page document, it took 1:21, increasing the speed again to 14.81 ppm. Samsung’s claimed top speed is 18 ppm, so for a printer maker that’s almost obscenely accurate.

A single page photocopy finished in 11 seconds, so you could get six or so pages per minute from the machine and a 6 x 4 in. photo took little more, at 13 seconds. Both these speeds are impressive, particularly for a machine being sold at around $200 – less minus delivery.

Print quality in most areas is good. Although the maximum resolution of the machine is just 600dpi, there’s little visible sign of jagged diagonals or curves in text. When you add greyscale graphics, the quality isn’t quite so good, with some striping apparent and not many visible grey shades.

The SCX-4300 uses an integrated drum and Samsung toner, capable of printing 2,000 ISO pages. With a typical cost of just under $80, this gives a cost per page of 5.4 cents including paper costs. This is a fairly typical cost for a mono laser device and for black print from a colour one, too, so you’re not paying extra because of the comparatively low purchase price of the all-in-one itself.

This is a good, straightforward multifunction printer which would be very at home in a typical SOHO environment. It’s quite quick, produces good text and passable graphics, though copies of graphics, particularly of grayscale shades, can be very patchy. Running costs are reasonable and if your budget is tight this looks like a good way of providing yourself with the main office print, scan and copy functions at reasonable cost.
