In spite of the fact that laser printers have become affordable over the years, they won’t force out matrix printers from the market. Jet printers – another popular family of printers – won’t make it either. The reason lies in the printing technology: while laser and jet printers are so-called nonimpact printers (they don’t interfere with paper), the pins of matrix printers strike ink directly in the paper. To leave prints of letters on the paper is the function of impact printers, and it is necessary or desirable in many areas (for example, while preparing the documents or missives). One more reason of success of matrix printers hides undoubtedly in lower cost of consumables. Flexibility of matrix printers is also important. Quite often one device combines availability to print on the rolled paper and single sheets, in black-and-white or color mode – and only few preparatory operations are needed. Moreover, the matrix printing technology has stood the test of time, and such printouts could be of rather high quality. That’s why this market is still full of offers. Meet the short reviews of the popular dot matrix printers of the famous brands. (more…)

Due to heavy competition in SOHO segment, every brand adds original features that could be the reason to buy the device. Last year OKI had launched a line of color LED printers C321, C331, C511, C531 – the commercial versions of the same printing mechanism – and their price still stays low and attractive.
Oki C331dn is a new model to replace the previous C330/C310, in which an essential flaw has been eliminated. The problem lays within the cartridge capacity. These printers use 4-in-1 cartridges, and in the office printing usually exceeds color printing by 30%, so the color cartridges were not finished up. In C331dn yellow, cyan and magenta cartridges are not used in the process of black/white printing, and the capacity of the black cartridge was enlarged to 30,000 pages, while this number in the color cartridges is 20,000.
The advantages of this printer are the greater printing speed, excellent speed of photo printing and good quality of the output.
Other Oki C331dn fine features are:
- Intelligible menu options
- Plain control panel
- Integrated duplex
- Low-slung design, what could be an advantage at a small office
- Durable and solid exterior construction
- Together with the main tray, which holds 250 sheets, and a multipurpose tray for 100 sheets (it can be used for different types of paper stock, including envelopes, index cards, banners and labels), there is an optional 530-page tray, what considerably enlarges the page capacity of the printer
- 5-year warranty for the LED printing module and 3-year warranty for the rest of the printer

Whether we want it or not, technological advancements change our life, and we often forecast how upcoming discoveries would affect it. Just like voice recognition would make typing obsolete or a digital workplace would eliminate the need for paper.
The rumors of totally paperless office future have been around for quite a long time, however, it doesn’t seem like such thing is coming any soon. In its “Future of Printing Survey”, OKI Printing Solutions interviewed 700 IT professionals nationwide, and discovered that they expect printing same amount or even more in the future, because they find it an important part of their job.
Here are the highlights of the survey:
90% of respondents consider their business printer to be indispensable or important, while only 1% consider their business printer to be not at all important
78% of respondents expect to print about the same amount or more often in the future as they do today
78% of respondents still prefer to review printed documents, whether in combination with reviewing on-screen or alone
Hard copy of a document is still considered something more trustful compared to electronic file read from the screen.
