In the end of June, one of the leading 3D printer producers—XYZprinting—had announced its first education-focused 3D printer—the da Vinci miniMaker. The model is beginner-friendly and aims for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) education.

Earlier this month, Zebra Technologies has unveiled its new ZD400-series of the desktop thermal printers. The two new models—ZD410/ZD420—are geared towards retail, manufacturing, transportation and logistics, and healthcare industries. They provide efficiency and flexibility in an increasingly connected and digital world. The models are the only printers in their respective classes to offer advanced connectivity options (such as IEEE 802.11ac Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth 4.1) and Zebra’s Link-OS software for convenient printing from the cloud, ease of use and for IT to manage.

A German designer Ludwig Rensch has created a prototype of a simple and stylish printer looking like a briefcase. The Paper was done during his diploma thesis as a college student—analyzing the problem of interacting with things and exploring the ways how the modern gadgets can be used intuitively. Though the device belongs to the Internet-of-things it doesn’t have any screen, but is equipped with physical controls and simple light signals (e.g. LEDs indicating the level of inks). According to the designer, it’s done to take the advantage of the human fine motor skills. The printer can be also operated from a special application or a web-site.
